I wasn’t involved in any coding or programming during my secondary school because it was quite new or even foreign in my school and we didn’t really have any tech programs or events to join. Therefore, I wasn’t really exposed to any coding and programming.
I came across Software Engineering when my parents introduced it to me after I finished SPM and was deciding on what I would do for my future. At first, I wasn’t really interested because I wasn’t really a “computer” person. However, I took the initiative of doing some research and realised that software engineering was not only for the web but also for mobile. This intrigued me because this widens the industry fields that I can go into after learning Software Engineering.
I also decided to try coding by watching YouTube videos to determine if I was really suitable for this pathway. I tried using the basics of HTML to create a very simple website. The decision to pursue Software Engineering came about when I felt a sense of accomplishment after completing the small project that I set for myself with just a computer and some codes.
Why Forward School?
I chose Forward School because I felt that the best way to learn coding and programming is through practice compared to learning only the theory by books. Forward School provides that kind of practical teaching which is identical to my point of view in learning. Moreover, we don’t need to study unnecessary mandatory subjects at other colleges and universities that we might not put into use in the future.
Favourite Moments in Forward School
One of my favourite moments is when we get to celebrate festivals together in the school. For example, we were given the chance to prepare a Christmas party where there were games, food and gift exchange. It was really a new experience for me cause I had never participated in any gift exchange events before.
What’s Next?
I’ll probably start small by landing a Backend Dev job in Malaysia while further honing my skills by taking new courses or joining bootcamps at the same time. After gaining some experience from work, I would like to venture and explore my career options overseas.
