I was a Science Stream student with a goal to venture into nursing after completing high school. I wasn’t exposed to any coding-related stuff back in my schooling days so programming was never an option in my mind. However, after studying, I realised that Nursing wasn’t something that I was really interested in and thus I began to explore and widen my college options. After I graduated, I started to look into my future career path, that's when I came across Forward School.
Why Forward School?
Never have I ever thought of studying Software Engineering until I stumbled upon Forward School during an Educational Fair back in 2020. I was fully amazed by what a Software Engineer could do by just writing a few lines of code. As I dive deeper into it, I became more curious on how codes work and wanted to explore if I could create something on my own out of codes. On top of that, I believe that the world is evolving towards digital technology, so I felt that this was a good subject to learn about.
To me, knowing isn’t enough; we need to put what we’ve learned into practice. Thus, Forward School is a perfect place to learn as it emphasises hands-on learning and real in-demand employability skills. Apart from that, there’s an industrial attachment every Friday starting from the 2nd Semester where we can gain working experience as well as having a better understanding of the working environment.
Favourite Moments in Forward School
My favorite moment studying in Forward School is the friendly people here. I feel like everyone here is easy to talk to plus they are always willing to lend a helping hand. Besides, the activities here are fantastic! I really enjoy the Developer Open Mic Sessions where students are given the platform to share what they are passionate about or what projects they have done. It is a great opportunity to learn as well as to interact with each other.
What’s next?
After I graduate, I wish to continue expanding my knowledge in tech-related stuff by working as a Software Engineer in a large corporation, where I could work in a team and gain more experience. It would be great if I could work overseas a few years later.
