I've always wanted to know how to code and had a particular interest in data and storytelling with data, but I didn't know where to start.
I stumbled upon Forward School's advertisement about their Data Science bootcamp on social media one day and decided to contact them.
During the bootcamp (which was mostly remote), the course outline was very well planned and executed. Our instructor was very much helpful and always made himself available should we have any enquiries on the topics which were covered throughout the course.
The staff members at Forward School were also very warm and welcoming which created a sense of belonging for us students.
All of us were distributed at that time but we were able to learn from each other - a lot of meaningful sharing among the students together with our instructor. Though everybody was hesitant to share their work at first, we still mustered up the courage to share hoping that we can learn different methods of problem solving from each other.
We were consistently reminded by our instructor that our learning does not end after the bootcamp and that this is a lifelong journey of learning. Here, I quote our instructor “Being a data scientist, you will also need to brush up and master your Google-Fu”. I do resonate with that as knowing what to look up and how to look up extra and new information on Google is very important for our learning and improvement after the bootcamp.
After the bootcamp, I still continued to learn and explore on my own with the basic fundamentals that I have. At work, I’m a part of the AI group where AI & ML solutions are implemented to help drive efficiency and cost reduction in manufacturing processes. I have also gotten multiple opportunities to learn more on top of my existing knowledge.
My first step at Forward School definitely helped me a lot to build a solid foundation. It was definitely a decision well made on my end and the program well executed on Forward School’s end.
