Yo, I’m Micheal, one of the students in Forward School. Originally before coming here, I was studying accounting. It didn’t really interest me that well and I didn’t really do well in the papers too. Despite that, I thought that maybe the accounting work life would be much more interesting, turns out that too didn’t really interest me so I’ve begun to ponder to myself, what do I really want to do. Then, I remembered that during high-school, I did kinda want to try out coding and since I’ve a strong interest in tech, I thought, why not be a Software Engineer. Plus, it supposedly pays good right? So I’ve tried a bit of self-learning to see if I’m really interested in programming and, surprise, surprise, I was.
I’ve then decided to search for a place to learn so I can get a foot in the front door of the software development world. The thing is, I’ve gone through tertiary education once and I didn’t feel like taking MPU subjects again so my options lean more towards bootcamps rather than colleges or universities. The problem with bootcamps though is that they don’t really offer a recognised cert like diplomas or degrees so that option was risky. Plus, most of the prominent ones are in KL while my parents prefer to have me in Penang as I have relatives there. So I’ve begun to search for any institutions in Penang and that’s how I found Forward School. I’ve noticed that the courses provided are very hands-on which is more towards my style and that MPU subjects aren’t necessary which entices me more. Also, the fact that it does provide a recognised diploma helps. So after looking through all the information about the school, I’ve decided to enrol into their NitroDegree for Software Engineering Course.
While being enrolled, I find myself enjoying many things. Some of my favourite moments are the late night drives with my coursemates, self-hosted movie nights, project weeks, and so on and so forth. I also enjoy the events hosted by the schools during my time there such as the various workshops and festive celebrations. There are many things you can do to make your time here memorable, as long as it is within reason.
Right now, at this time of writing, I’m currently in my internship semester which is the last semester. Being at this point of time, I tend to ponder, what do I want to do when I graduate. Right now, I don’t really have an ultimate goal or raison d’etre and things like that but what I do know is that I’m currently enjoying my career and plan to stick it out for the foreseeable future. Maybe I’ll try my hands on game dev, who knows?
So all in all, what I can really say is that I do not regret my decision to come here.
